August, a streetwear brand and retail space founded by Rob Bowhan, former Brand Architect at Under Armour. Located in Madison, Wisconsin, they offer unique brands in an inclusive environment for the exchange of ideas, art, and fashion, aiming to cater to the city's expanding community of streetwear enthusiasts.
Project Outline
The goal was to create a high fashion online space to showcase their teams carefully created content. August’s unique retail space captures the reverence of the brands they offer, which I wanted to incorporate into their online space.
I wanted to bring the polished atmosphere of their in person retail experience into their online shop by creating a similar minimal aesthetic with carefully designed micro-interactions in key elements. I researched their many of their international counterparts like Dover Street Market or Slam Jam to provide an online shop that stands out.
Within two quarters, their online store surpassed its in-store sales, leading to an impressive 157% monthly revenue increase.
Creative development #
Every detail has been meticulously designed, from page transitions to custom cursor micro-interactions that help guide the user through the site.
Elements like a custom “featured brands” section allows them to periodically update and feature their creative team's beautifully shot campaigns of brands and products.
To meet the demands of their ever changing merchandising needs with function and efficiency as top priorities, all of the sections were designed to be fully customized, moved and resized as needed.
With an extensive catalogue and with user conversion in mind, I added interactive elements to the product grid, offering engaging way to see product availability with selection and add to cart directly on grid, and filters that are always visible that allow for users to refine their shopping experience.
Also key was having the search feature always accessible in the sticky header as well
Equally important was to make sure the product page could work for a wide variety of products
